Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 18:30

June 2018 Training

Session Aims

This month’s training sees a move to the grass of Pitreavie Playing Fields on a Tuesday and Pittencrieff Park on Thursdays. Sessions have another mix of the different pace types to suit those both racing and starting to build for the late summer races.

Tuesday Sessions

We’ll move to the grass of Pitreavie Playing fields on Tuesday nights for various shorter distance types of running. The 30/30 session sounds, on first hearing, like anaerobic speed-work but is actually an interesting way to build your VO2max as opposed to the typical 3-5 min intervals at 5k pace. The aim is to run faster than 5k place for 30s, rest 30s and do it again for 15-20 reps (or more if you can keep going). Sounds easy but it’s not. See here for further details:

The other grass sessions are more typical 200/400m intervals with longer rests, the aim being to run at approx. 1 mile race pace and focus on form.

Thursday Sessions

On Thursdays we will continue to use the popular venue of The Glen (Pittencrieff Park) for a mixture of cruise intervals and VO2m sessions.

The session will start at 6.50 pm prompt at the Peacock Café corner of the Glen Pavilion. If planning to run up from Pitreavie Sport and Soccer Centre, it’s approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) so aim to leave from there at either 6.30 pm for an easy run up. If going direct to the session start point, allow time to warm up before the session start time.

Due to the on-going popularity of the alternative Thursday off-road session, we will be continuing with these as resources permit. These will be suitable for all levels of runner and will comprise either a steady paced run with regular stops to re-group, or circuits for a pre-determined length of time or number of repetitions. We will continue to monitor the level of interest to decide how frequently to continue these sessions throughout the summer months.

Training Feedback

Following the election of a new committee, we will be reviewing the composition of the training sub-group. In the meantime, if you have questions or feedback regarding any of the sessions, please either speak to the person leading the training session on the night or send an email to [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
