An excellent weekend in the hills with the 2018 running of the ever popular Devils Burdens Hill Relays, organised by Fife AC. With a total of 151 teams racing on the day, it was another record turnout for this iconic event, and Carnegie Harriers were well represented with 5 teams entered, a total of 30 individual runners.
With clubs represented from across Scotland, including many specialist hill-running squads, it was our V40 male team (Steven Honeyman, Paul Keiran, Willie Rennie, Derek Fish, Alan Murray and Chris Stephenson) who were first across the line in a time of 3:29:57, taking 23rd overall, and 6th V40 team, a notable performance against such tough competition.
Next to finish was our male senior team (Craig Milligan, Andy Sim, Callum Vallance, Jonathan Millar, Paul Love and Neil Anderson) with a time of 4:17:15, followed by our first mixed team (Gillian McCracken, Aileen Morton, Stevie Greer, Barry Davie, Kevin Davie and Karen Forsyth) in 4:44:33.
Meanwhile, our female senior team (Zuleika Brett, Michelle Best, Egle Laurinaityte, Jennifer Smith, Robyn Morrocco and Frances Beattie) were having a strong day amongst the hills, finishing in 4:54:09, with our second mixed team (Willie Scott, Phil Smithard, Gordon Somerville, Isobel Burnett, Charlotte Briggs and Sylvia McGoldrick) safely bringing the club home in 5:07:04.
Great to see all five teams coming together and working well to have a successful and smooth-running day, especially considering the extremely windy and tough conditions, and excellent to see so many from the club using this enjoyable event as their first venture into hill-running.
