Exciting News! Run of the Mill Hill race

Run of The Mill Hill Race

The committee have decided to look into the possibility of taking over the Run of the Mill hill race as a CH event. This is an exciting opportunity for Carnegie Harriers to resurrect a popular Scottish Hill Racing race which stopped running in 2017. We are hoping to reinstate the race in its original form for the 2020 SHR calendar. The race would nicely compliment the popular Devilla (trail) and Knockhill (road) races.

This year on 20th October 2019, we are going to run a trial race for Carnegie Harriers members and invited guests only, to work out all the necessary arrangements to make this race as successful as our Devilla Races and the GCM race. This will be a Free event for all full members of Carnegie Harriers.

Description

Runners must be 18 or over. Full body cover, whistle, map & compass must be carried, and will be checked at race registration.

Registration will be posted in final instructions. Pre entry strictly by approval only. This is to limit numbers to a manageable level and ensure only club members and invited guests can run the trial race this year. Carnegie members should email [email protected] if they wish to take part. We also require volunteers and marshals for the 20th, so please indicate whether you wish to to run, volunteer, marshal or all three, when you email in.

The course will be fully waymarked, with marshal’s at checkpoints and a tail runner. Part of the trial will be to find the optimum place for marshals to be stationed for the race proper in 2020.
Recce runs will be available with dates and details to follow on the Carnegie Harriers website, CH Members Facebook and email.

The race route starts with an initial climb out of Alva Glen, followed by fast runnable trail through Woodland Park to reach Tillicoultry. From Tillicoultry there’s a steep climb to reach the approach path to King’s Seat. At grid ref 927001 the route turns left along a fenceline to join the Maddy Moss route in reverse to the highpoint of Ben Cleuch. After Ben Cleuch there is a small rise over Ben Ever before a fast and furious descent back to Alva.

The 2020 race itself will have new silverware for the winners of the men’s and women’s race, who will be competing for the Tom Bowie Cup and a special award for the first Carnegie Harrier, The George Murdoch Shield.

Hill captain Colin Reynolds shall be the race director for the trial race this year and the full race in 2020, so please contact Colin or any committee member, for any further information or queries you may have.

We look forward to see many members at the trial race on 20th October.
