Saturday 10th February witnessed the club head to the hills of Blairadam Forest for our rescheduled ‘members-only’ Festive Forest Run, pushed back after unfortunately having to cancel due to the icy underfoot conditions back in December.
Despite the rescheduling, was great to see 31 runners toeing the start line on the day, as well as many more from the club present in a volunteering capacity. 16 opted for the early start of 12:15, with the other 17 starting at 12:30. However, unfortunately one runner pulled out with an injury shortly after the start, leaving 30 out on the course.
Down to business, and it was Paul Kieran who stole the show with an impressive run, stopping the clock at 43:41. Willie Rennie gave him a run for his money however, pushing all the way to finish 2nd in 44:51, with Chris Stephenson holding off Kevin Davie to complete the podium in 46:31. Samantha Laird was the quickest of the women, crossing the line in 51:49 with Isobel Burnett 2nd in 57:09 and Lesley Halstead 3rd in 58:29.
Moving onto the Veteran categories, Steven Honeyman and Jennifer Smith claimed the V40 titles in 49:11 and 61:04 respectively. John Hynd took the men’s V50 prize, and four of the ladies tied for the F50 prize having all crossed the line together, well done to Gillian McCracken, Fiona Rennie, Sue Walker and Pauline Walker. Onto the V60 category, and it was Gordon Somerville who took the men’s title with Val Macaulay laying claim to the women’s. Phil Smithard took the V70 prize holding of a couple of younger gents in the process.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the day, without whom we would not be able to stage our event.
